Kyle Devine discusses his new book Recomposed: Music, Climate Crisis, Change and explores the environmental impacts of the music industry.
A talk by musicologist Kyle Devine in the wake of his new book Recomposed: Music, Climate Crisis, Change (Verso, 2026) on rethinking the music industry's environmental impact and how musicians are using the cultural power of music to link climate awareness to climate action.
Dr. Kyle Devine is an award-winning author and editor and is internationally recognised for his work on the environmental situation of music. He currently works as Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor in Environmental Studies at the University of Winnipeg and is the lead expert in greening music at EarthPercent, a climate charity cofounded by Brian Eno.
He also advised the MIT Climate Machine's comprehensive study of live music emissions in the US and UK. In October 2026, Kyle will join University College Dublin where he will lead a team investigating the political ecology of artificial intelligence in music.
This event is presented by the Northrop Frye Centre, the Institute for Environment, Conservation and Sustainability (IECS), and the Environmental Humanities initiative of the School of the Environment.
